Pam Elliott Cain, CPA, serves as the Senior Vice President for Operations and Finance and the University Treasurer. Ms. Cain provides institution-wide leadership and vision for a large, service-oriented, comprehensive division that supports the Iowa State University land-grant mission. She works closely with a divisional leadership team to advise senior leadership about financial and strategic administrative efforts, oversee service-oriented operations, resource strategic planning and analyses, programs and activities, policy development, capital and financial budgeting processes, and personnel management. Ms. Cain joined Iowa State University in 2007 when she accepted the role of Associate Vice President and University Secretary.
Prior to Iowa State, Ms. Cain served eleven years as Chief Business Officer with the Iowa Board of Regents, governing body for the three public universities in Iowa. In that role, she coordinated policy, governance, decision making, strategic planning, finances, business practices, legislative and external communications, compliance, and office operations. She spent many years in the Iowa Auditor’s office as an audit manager with accomplishments that included enhancing audits processes; originating fraud investigative techniques; creating projects to generate cost savings and improve processes; and designing professional structured curriculum for internal CPAs.
Some of her most recent external service roles as board member/officer include the Ames Chamber of Commerce, CyRide (Ames Transit Agency), Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation, Rotary Club of Ames, Green Hills Retirement Community, National and Central Associations of College and University Business Officers, Ames Main Street Cultural District, United Way of Story County, ISU Veterinary Services Corporation, ISU Research Park, and ISU Research Foundation.
